Release Notes
World v.4.2.6 & v.3.2.8
- Proprietary palmOne time zone changing now fully supported on the T5, T650 and E2 devices and anything new that
comes after these.
This essentially means that time zone
changes can most reliably be done via World instead of using the Date/Time panel provided by palmOne.
The bottom line: always use World to change time zones to get a reliable result.
- Itineraries, TZ Events and TravelSync are now officially being retired. This is unfortunately due
directly to palmOne changing the internal format of the Palm OS Date Book. It is no longer economically
viable and technically difficult for us to support palmOne's proprietary Date Book format.
General Mar. 1st 2005
- palmOne T5 device incompatibilities fixed..
- Mac OS Installer improvements..
TZ Events & Itineraries v.3.1.5
- palmOne T3 incompatibility fixed for when arriving at destinations in Itineraries and having the Palm
Date Book as the currently running application.
General
- The Installer should now been Mac OS 10.2 compatible - previously it had only been working on 10.3.
World 3.2.6 & 4.2.4
- The location lookup feature is now off by default and can be enabled and disabled via the application's
preferences. This has been done given that GPRS connections to the internet tend not to work
well with Geobytes.
- Improvement in the use of the navigator for the Treo 600.
General (Dec 2003)
- Complete overhaul of product names and branding. Everything is now under the titanclass brand. Each
product name is now descriptive of its function to make it easier to locate on the launcher.
TZ Events v.3.1.4
- palmOne T3 incompatibility fixed whereby desktop created appointments were not being picked up.
- v.3.1.3 introduced a constraint whereby the system preferences for date format was not being honored. This
has now been fixed.
World 3.2.5 & 4.2.3
- New location lookup feature for when an internet connection is established with your device. World will now
automatically contact the Geobytes location server (http://www.geobytes.com/) and attempt to determine your
approximate location on earth. The location returned is then prompted to you if it is different to where you have
already declared World to be. You then have the option of making the new location your current location.
The new location feature will facilitate automatic time zone
changes when you have no flight itinerary available e.g. when
travelling between cities and states in a car, bus or train.
Another scenario may be that there is a flight itinerary for our Itineraries
product, but you have a stop-over in a place not
detailed by the itinerary. For example, you may be flying from
Sydney to London and have an itinerary entered in Itineraries to
reflect this. Along the way, you stop in Singapore for a couple
of hours and have access to an WiFi network at the airport. As soon as you
connect to the WiFi network, World will automatically determine your new location
as being Singapore.
The new location feature will work for all types of internet connection that your device can make e.g. Bluetooth,
GPRS, 802.11 (WiFi), serial, infra-red to mobile phone and more.
- Now circumvents a daylight savings time issue introduced by palmOne handhelds running Palm OS 5 e.g. Tungsten
and Zire models.
- Improved the integration of palmOne time zone functionality generally.
Itineraries v.3.1.4
- v.3.1.3 introduced a bug for the 'Show Actual Durations' preference setting. This bug caused departure times to appear
earlier than expected in the date book and has now been fixed.
TravelSync v.3.4.2
- Some underlying improvements to wireless connectivity.
Older Release Notes
General
- Handspring Treo optimisations; specifically support for new navigation keys and keyboard focus.
- Updated installers for Mac and Windows that go further determine the type of device you are running. This assists
in ensuring that the right software is installed for your device.
Figaro v.3.1.4
- New high resolution graphics.
- New metal and plastic skins that suit today's new display technologies. These skins are much richer in color than the
previous ones we have published.
- Fixed a bug where pressing the 'clear' button could result in some subsequent operations also being cleared.
Time Book v.3.1.3
TravelSync v.3.4.1
Time Place v.3.2.4
Time Travel v.3.1.3
- Extensive support for the time zone capabilities offerred by Palm OS 4 onward. This enables Time Travel to
be more tolerant of changes of date and time on a device given that your offset to GMT can be considered. In
particular, devices that synchronise their system clock with external sources, such as when SmartPhones do on
connecting with a network, are now catered for.
Time Place v.4.2.2
- The use of a 'Current Time Zone' record has been replaced with a record of the form 'GMT+hh:mm' and 'GMT-hh:mm'.
This method is much better suited to applications that depend on Time Place (such as Time Book). Other applications
could previously associate with 'Current Time Zone' and have their data inaccurately reflect a time zone. This is
because 'Current Time Zone' could have its GMT offset values changed. The new method avoids this kind of problem.
- Address book lookups will now display until the device is ready to power off. Previously addresses would display on the globe
or map for a maximum of 30 seconds; this used to concern some users. Now addresses will display for a number of minutes.
- Increased the speed of rotations with hardware navigation keys.
- Now only makes a sound when there is a more significant shift in rotation.
- Time overlay locations now have a small red diamond associated with them.
This provides a better indication of exactly what the overlay refers to and avoids potential confusions.
- Address book lookups now prefer to show the city from the address rather than the place found by Time Place.
This should make the result look quite pleasing.
- The maximum lengths of items from the address book has been increased. Additionally, Time Place now shows an
item from the address book even if it is greater than what may fit on the screen. In this instance, Time Place
truncates the item.
- Now honors 24 hour time preferences when editing dates and times in the calculator.
Time Place v.4.2.1
- Improved animation for OS 5 based devices.
- Fixed a small glitch in the new demo mode for high end OS 5 devices.
- Fixed a 5-way navigation problem introduced in v.4.2.0.
- Improved how Time Place copes with changes to the date and time on a handheld. Time Place now only prompts you
to confirm its location if your time zone has actually changed... not your date and time.
- Improvements to animation effects.
- No longer makes a sound when not moving anywhere e.g. map image at 100%
- Now properly resets the alarm when using the Timer and you stop the countdown. Previously the alarm still sounded
despite you having stopped the timer. This problem now completely fixed.
- VA now added as a State abbreviation.
- Improved control over the movement of the day/night curve in the Time Calculator.
- 5-way navigation select now has no effect while in the Time Calculator - previously the behaviour was unintuitive.
- 5-way navigation select can now be used to go to an address book record in the address book when displaying a
phone number on the globe or map.
- Improved support for third party address book applications and removed the assumption that the address book is always
the second hardware button.
Time Place v.4.2.0
- There is new address book functionality allowing you to quickly locate a number and see if the person you are about to
call is awake!
Tapping the address book icon will list addresses that
can be tapped on to reveal phone numbers and local times. Time Place will also attempt to use the address book
record's City, Country or any of the Custom fields as text to search for in its database of places. If
Time Place finds the place then the phone numbers of the address you select will be shown along with the
current time in their time zone.
- Palm OS 5 devices: Now animates movement and makes a sound when jumping to places e.g. selecting a place from the
place list will spin the other to that point rather than just move to it. It will also make a 'whoosh'
sound when doing so.
- Sony Clie: The jog dial is now fully supported for moving the globe and map around.
- New major international airports and worldwide states, territories and their capitals to facilitate address book
lookups.
- The address book function and calculator functions have been made more obvious by having icons displayed for them on the globe and map screens.
- Exiting the calculator is now made a little more intuitive by placing the 'back' icon close to the button used for entering the calculator. Now also displays a title to clearly indicate that the calculator is being used.
- Scroll keys can now be used to move the day/night curve for devices that do not have jog dial or 5-way navigation.
- The demo mode menu option has now been improved to provide continuous rotation of the earth so that it looks more impressive.
- Removed accents from place names to conform with the place names at MyTimeTraveler, and also to simplify support for non English languages.
- Moving from the globe/map view to the list view using a letter to quickly search for a place will now
ensure that the category on display is set to 'all'. This should ease quick lookups.
- When using the pen to select a location on the globe or map, the next time the list is displayed it will
show the pen chosen location in it.
- Fixed up some help text.
General
-
New colour icons.
-
Complete OS 5 support.
Figaro v.3.1.3
-
Fixed a glitch where one too many zeroes resulted when multiplying some special numbers.
-
Simplified wireless synchronization of currencies by streamlining the Options menu.
TravelSync v.3.4.0
-
The wireless communications side of things have been completely re-written to support Palm OS 5
(e.g. Tungsten T and Sony Clie NX devices). This new support is also backwardly compatible to Palm OS 3.1.
-
All synchronization now goes through the login screen for MyTimeTraveler. This simplifies the synchronization
options previously on offer down to one Synchronization option.
Time Place v.3.2.3
-
Fixed a glitch introduced by 3.2.2 where tapping on the +/- button in the calculator caused a problem.
Time Place v.4.1.5/v.4.1.6
-
New German version.
-
Fixed a glitch introduced by v.4.1.4 where non-ARM based Clies did not display the globe properly (it displayed as
two globes side by side!).
-
Tungsten W enhancements.
Time Place v.4.1.4
-
Fixed a small glitch where changing the time zone in a dialog of the calculator didn't reflect the time shown in the dialog
simultaneously.
-
Slightly modified so that OS 4 devices with the new hires library and hardware render the globe in low resolution. High
resolution requires the processing power of ARM.
-
Fixed a glitch where Time Place 4 on some Tungsten T and Clie NX devices would not work. The conditions for this problem
to occur were based on how much other software and data there was on the device. The condition would show by simply
resetting the device on launching Time Place 4. The problem has now been fixed.
General
Figaro v.3.1.2
Time Book v.3.1.2
Time Place v.3.2.2
Time Place v.4.1.3
Time Travel v.3.1.2
TravelSync v.3.3.1
-
More OS 5 Support and other small fixes.
Figaro v.3.1.1
-
'MR' - Memory Recall function was incorrectly clearing the current calculation being performed. This
has now been fixed.
Time Book v.3.1.1
-
When the 'Event Zone' is changed the 'Local Zone' time will now remain as it was. Consequently
the event zone's date and time will be recalculated as appropriate. This has been done in
order to offer more intuitive and consistent behaviour between event zone and local zone operations.
-
Small obscure glitch fixed whereby a Time Book appointment with a description containing only
whitespace could cause an error.
Time Place v.3.2.1
-
Latitude and longitude are now properties that can be inherited by a location that is based on
another location e.g. given that the airport LAX is based on Los Angeles, LAX will now show a
latitude and longitude equivalent to Los Angeles. While this is not technically correct (the
airport is outside of Los Angeles) it does allow a sensible set of default values to exist for
a location. These defaults present themselves as being quite useful for the Time Calculator
and other parts of Time Place.
Time Place v.4.1.2
-
Small fixes for upcoming ARM devices.
Time Place v.4.1.1
-
Brightened the satellite imagery for improved visibility on devices such as the m505.
Time Place v.4.1.0
-
Time Place 4 can now perform 'ARM native' drawing of its globe and map views. ARM is the name of the
next generation Palm technology and performs many functions at approximately 20x faster than current
technology. This results in smooth and fast animation for Time Place 4; something that needs to be
seen to be believed!
'ARM native' is a special treatment of Time Place where some of it has been written specifically
for the new processor. Coupled with the ARM support is Time Place's support for the 'high density' displays
expected in the next generation Palm based devices. High density displays offer twice the resolution of
current technology and result in clear, crisp graphics and text.
Time Place 4 has received wide acclaim for its ARM and high density support. Palm Inc., PalmSource Inc. and Sony have been using
Time Place 4 for various high profile demonstrations.
-
A new Time Calculator is now offered. The Time Calculator is available from the menu and by tapping
on the time in the bottom right hand corner of the world image display.
While in the calculator you
may tap on any of the preferred locations to set the location, date and/or time. You can additionally
drag the day/night curve on the map to intuitively determine the day and time in other zones. You
may also observe that the time overlays are shaded to indicate whether or not it is a good time to call.
Green means good, amber means maybe and red means 'probably not'!
Tapping on the date and/or time while already in the Time Calculator will reset the calculator date/time back
to what it was prior to you changing it.
Finally tapping on the Book icon at
the bottom right allows you to make an Date Book appointment based on your calculations.
-
The time overlays that appear on the map and globe views are now automatically arranged so that the chances
of overlapping each other are reduced. For example if you go to the Time Calculator map view and choose Madrid,
London and Paris then they do not overlap each other. Previously there would have been considerable overlapping
given that the top left hand corner of an overlay's rectangle was always used to indicate the actual location
of what is being referred to. Now the other corners of the overlay's rectangle can be used by Time Place.
-
Improved handling of the World and View menu items. Time Place no longer shows alerts stating that you have to
be in certain views to perform an item. The new policy is to take you to the appropriate view. For example
selecting 'Flip Current View' when viewing the map will take you to the globe view and flip from where you
were on the map.
-
Latitude and longitude are now properties that can be inherited by a location that is based on
another location e.g. given that the airport LAX is based on Los Angeles, LAX will now show a
latitude and longitude equivalent to Los Angeles. While this is not technically correct (the
airport is outside of Los Angeles) it does allow a sensible set of default values to exist for
a location. These defaults present themselves as being quite useful for the new Time Calculator
and other parts of Time Place.
-
A red circle will now appear if your current location is not represented as a preferred time on the
globe or the map. This provides a visual cue as to your present location and is particularly
useful when using the new Time Calculator.
-
New menu item for switching between the globe and map views. This menu works in exactly the same
way as the rectangle and circle the top right hand corner of the main screen.
-
Time overlays now move as you move the map when magnified. Previously they were being redrawn after
moving.
Time Travel v.3.1.1
-
Now allows you to move to the previous and next records from the edit screen. Two arrow buttons can
now appear at the bottom right of the edit screen. The scroll keys can also be used in place of tapping
on the buttons. This new functionality allows you to easily compare the details of your itinerary items
with a hard copy itinerary that you may have.
-
Receiving a single itinerary item via beaming will now automatically display that item. Additionally the
receipt of multiple items will cause Time Travel to be launched and its main screen displayed.
-
Increased the amount of space a date can occupy in the main list screen. Previous versions could truncate the
date given some date values.

All applications have been rebuilt slightly differently to avoid unexpected behaviour
caused by the tools we use for building. The only manifestation of this behaviour we know
of was in Time Travel when you moved manually from one time zone to another. The result of this
manual transition was to set the device's clock to 1904; something our applications
had never done before.
This general glitch was only introduced recently as a result of our previous
release - if you have not already upgraded then you will not have the problem.
This latest release solves the issue completely.

-
Palm OS 4 support. This means that Time Traveler fully supports the setting of a Palm device
with respect to its offset to GMT and whether it is in daylight savings time or not. Any other
application that supports the time zone functionality of Palm OS 4 will therefore be able to
respond gracefully to your traveling with Time Traveler.
-
Palm OS 3 users: Ensure that you have as a minimum Palm OS 3.1 - Palm OS 3.0 as found
on the early Palm III devices is no longer supported by Time Traveler. Updates of the Palm
OS can be found at www.palm.com and following the support links.
Figaro v.3.0.2
-
New support for the varying number formats of the operating system. Also supports
the placement of a thousands separator e.g. 1,000.
Figaro v.3.0.1
-
There was a glitch for users of devices with anything less than Palm OS 4. The glitch
mangled numbers of certain precisions in the calculator. The problem was in the
operating system and has now been worked around.
Time Book v.3.1.0
-
Cosmetic change to Date Book alert that displays when arriving in a new location. Time Book
now uses the word 'location' instead of 'time zone'.
Time Book v.3.0.1
-
Fixed an issue where Time Book wasn't updating an entry where its corresponding appointment in
the Date Book had been modified. This occurred with the default preference setting of not
capturing eligible or All appointments.
-
Fixed an issue where Time Book could cause Hotsync to fail if appointments associated with
it went missing.
Time Book v.3.0.0
-
The preferences dialog has been re-arranged and simplified. There is also a new option to
'Avoid Hotsync Duplication'. Duplications within the Palm Date Book were being reported due
to the midnight spanning appointments that Time Book creates. Enabling this new option will
flag the second appointment created to represent the spanning of midnight in such a way that
it will not be copied to the PC. Please note that this option is only available on Palm OS 3.5
and later and is only useful if you hotsync with something other than the Palm Desktop when
traveling.
-
DST boundary information in the Palm Date Book description is no longer provided. We felt
that this option was not being used enough and caused unwanted complexity.
Time Place v.3.2.0
-
Knowing the current location is important to Time Place for determining
when to automatically switch into and out of daylight savings time. However if you prefer to
disable Time Place's automatic daylight savings processing then changes to the time zone and
date/time outside of Time Place will now prevent it from re-prompting for the current location.
-
Fixed a glitch where looking up something on a blank list screen required the device to be reset.
Time Place v.3.1.7
-
Included new places: Dubai and DXB.
-
Corrected GMT offset of Kabul to 4 hours 30 minutes.
Time Place v.3.1.6
-
Improved handling of system settings with respect to time formats. If you now change the system
format for time to 24 hours then this is reflected in the world map display and alarm dialogs.
-
There was an issue where if the alarm sounded 10 or more times, an error would appear with some
devices. The issue, which was introduced recently, has now been fully rectified.
-
There was an issue where if the no alarm was set, but the count-down timer had been sent and
subsequently expired (i.e. quite an unusual condition) then Time Place would not move into or
out of Daylight Savings Time automatically. This issue has now been fixed.
-
Time Place previously had an issue where if a place was being edited and then you switched to
another application, and then back to Time Place, the result would be a mix of the world map and
the edit screen displayed. This has now been fixed.
-
Palm OS 4 Support: Time Place now re-prompts for current time zone if you change the date, time,
time zone or daylight savings flag outside of Time Place. This is to best ensure Time Place gets to
maintain control of daylight savings time characteristics. You can elect to have Time Place
not maintain daylight savings time information via this prompt.
-
Better display of current time when the device is switch on. Previously the time when the device
powered off was displayed initially, then re-drawn with the current time. Now the current time
is removed when the device is powered off so that there is no confusion over what is the correct
time when powering back on.
Time Place v.3.1.4
-
There is a new improved look for the colour version of Time Place. The new look shows a
raised 3D style of map with light topographical features. This has been achieved with little
effect on memory or performance. We hope you like the new look! (also viewable from our
website for the rest of us with monochrome devices).
-
Improved reporting of location times as you tap around the map for both monochrome and
colour version.
-
Palm OS 4 only: When you change the time zone using the Prefs application, Time Place will
update a place entitled, 'Current Time Zone' to reflect the new time zone setting. This special
Time Place record is always updated so that it correctly reflects the values found in the
PalmOS. It will also make the 'Current Time Zone' time place the current one within Time
Place.
-
Palm OS 4 only: When Time Place is first launched it will set up the special 'Current Time
Zone' place in accordance with the PalmOS time zone settings. This avoids having to prompt
for your location the first time Time Place is used.
-
Palm OS 4 only: When Time Place is told to move to a new location or automatically moves
into or out of daylight savings time, the Palm OS is automatically notified. This allows other
Palm OS 4 compatible applications to adjust their settings for the new time zone also.
-
Palm OS 4 only: We now support alarm vibration and LED flashing for both the Timer and
Wake Up alarms.
Time Travel v.3.1.0
-
Beaming itineraries is now possible. You can also send an itinerary via whatever
tranmission capability your device supports e.g. you can send an itinerary to someone via SMS to
their mobile phone.
Itineraries can be sent to another Palm device, PocketPC device and many cell phones -
the recipient does not even require Time Traveler on their device as an itinerary will end up
being displayed in their Date Book. If the recipient does have Time Traveler then they can achieve
greater flexibility by being able to determine the target of the itinerary e.g. an itinerary can be
received into Time Traveler and the Date Book, or just the Date Book.
Beaming, Sending and receiving itineraries requires Palm OS 4 or later. Receiving an itinerary
into the Palm Date Book requires Palm OS 3.0 or later.
-
Improved color support. Past traveled legs of an itinerary are now gray and the current legs are
green.
-
Fixed a small glitch where the up and down scroll keys were being interpreted incorrectly. The
previous problem caused the departure time dialog to be shown unexpectedly.
Time Travel v.3.0.1
-
Fixed an issue where Time Travel could cause Hotsync to fail if appointments associated with
it went missing. This has now been fixed.
-
Two new menu items that provide a quick access point to TravelSync functionality. These menus
are titled 'Hotsync Itinerary' and 'Sync Itinerary'.
Time Travel v.3.0.0
-
The preferences dialog has been re-arranged and simplified. There is also a new option to
'Avoid Hotsync Duplication'. Duplications within the Palm Date Book were being reported due
to the midnight spanning flight legs that Time Travel creates. Enabling this new option will flag
the second appointment created to represent the spanning of midnight in such a way that it
will not be copied to the PC. Please note that this option is only available on Palm OS 3.5 and
later and is only useful if you hotsync with something other than the Palm Desktop when
traveling.
TravelSync v.3.2.0
-
Fixed a small glitch where TravelSync didn't properly housekeep old entries in its database.
This could cause duplicate synchronizations to appear under certain conditions.
-
Fixed a small glitch where TravelSync could potentially consume more space than required in the
Address Book. This could also result in a diagnostic error being displayed by the Address Book under
certain circumstances.
TravelSync v.3.1.2
-
An oversight with the 3.1.1 release was introduced resulting in Figaro's conversion
rates being set to 0 after Hotsync. This has now been fixed.
-
New support for the varying number formats of the operating system. Also supports
the placement of a thousands separator e.g. 1,000.
TravelSync v.3.1.1
-
There was a glitch for users of devices with anything less than Palm OS 4. The glitch
mangled numbers of certain precisions when transferring currencies to the calculator.
The problem was in the operating system and has now been worked around.
TravelSync v.3.1.0
-
Support is now provided for currency exchange rate downloads from MyTimeTraveler. Rates are
distributed to
Figaro, our new Calculator replacement program. You can obtain several popular rates by using the
'Sync Popular Currency Rates' menu. Additionally when you download your itinerary from MyTimeTraveler
currency rates pertaining to the countries you are traveling between will also be downloaded. Note:
not every country in the world can be provided.
-
There was an issue with downloading Note information into Time Travel and the Palm Date Book. Notes
were being truncated at the end of the first line. This has now been fixed.
-
We have optimized the size of wireless downloads to better minimize the cost implications of using
'pay-as-you-download' plans.
TravelSync v.3.0.6
-
This new utility allows you to synchronize your itineraries from http://www.mytimetraveler.com/
either using the internet from your Palm (if your Palm supports internet access) and/or using
Hotsync. Having your itinerary at MyTimeTraveler allows you to share it with family, friends
and colleagues so that they can see where you are and what time it is there in real time.
MyTimeTraveler also allows you or others to enter flight, hotel and car rental information
which then intuitively integrates with your Palm Date Book, Address Book and Time Travel.
Best of all, MyTimeTraveler is FREE!
-
There was an issue that occurred sometimes using the OmniSky wireless service which resulted in the downloaded
itinerary not being able to be interpreted. This has now been fixed.
-
TravelSync has a revised look which accomodates more information about the last itinerary download.
